Naija Super 8: Remo Stars shoot down Enyimba FC in opening game
Remo Stars were 2-1 winners over Enyimba FC in the opening game of the maiden Naija Super 8 tournament, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan Lagos.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The match was today, Friday July 7 with kick-off by 4pm.
A fitting opening game between the first and second placed teams from the 2022/2023 Nigeria Premier Football League season.
Enyimba FC qualified for the tournament as South East representatives while Remo Stars FC are representatives of the South West.
Remo Stars FC new signing Isaac James raced forward, did a few step overs before firing past Enyimba FC goalkeeper Ojo Olurenleke for the opening goal.
Four minutes later, the NPFL Champions found the equalizer, when Chisom Okereke finished off a beautiful team move to beat Kayode Bankole for 1-1.
Both teams failed to add to the tally and so first half ended 1-1.
In the second half, Isaac James turned provider as he laid a pass for Segun Ogunribide to tap in what turned out to be the match winner in the 58th minute.
At the expiration of regulation time, it was Remo Stars Sports Club who emerged victorious 2-1, a perfect start to the tournament for the Sky Blues who took custody of maximum points.
Sporting Lagos FC and Katsina United FC are the other group A teams at the maiden Naija Super 8 tournament.
