Nasarawa United head to top as MFM enter relegation trouble in NPFL Matchday 16 Round-Up

Sunshine remain winless, Abia Warriors remain unbeaten

In Wednesday’s NPFL Matchday 16 action, 6 matches took place.

Ndifreke Effiong scored from the penalty spot to hand Akwa United all three points with a 1-0 win over visiting FC Ifeanyi Ubah at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

Rivers United overcame MFM by a 2-0 scoreline. Fortune Omoniwari and Nelson Esor scored second half goals that secured the points for the Pride of Rivers, maintaining their 100% home record.

Warri Wolves relieved their coach Evans Ogenyi of his duties after his side could only muster a 0-0 draw at home to Jigawa Golden Stars, keeping them in the relegation zone.

Heartland defeated Bauchi-based Wikki Tourists 2-0 at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri. Emeka Atuloma and Kingsley Maduforo were the goalscorers for the Naze Millionaires.

Adamawa United held Abia Warriors to a 1-1 draw at the Pantami Stadium. Obioma Chukwuemeka opened the scoring for the Umuahia Landlords, but Danjuma Jamilu equalised for Adamawa United, earning them a share of the spoils.

Kano Pillars defeated Kwara United 2-0 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna. Veteran midfielder and captain, Rabiu Ali scored from the penalty spot after one hour, and Usman Babalolo secured the points at the death with a second goal.

On Thursday, Katsina United pulled off a shock 2-0 win over Rangers International thanks to a goal from Rasheed Ahmed in the first half and a late Joseph Atule penalty in the second half.

Nasarawa United were propelled to the top of the NPFL with a 3-0 thrashing of Dakkada FC at the Lafia Township Stadium. A blitz of two goals in three minutes from Ikenna Offor and Silas Nwankwo gave them a 2-0 lead inside nine minutes, before Offor added a third after 34 minutes to secure a comfortable win for the Solid Miners.

Plateau United punished Sunshine Stars further, extending their winless run to 9 games with a 3-1 win at the New Jos Stadium. Oche Ochowechi opened the scoring for Plateau United, before Ibrahim Mustapha Yuga added a second from the spot. Uche Onwuasonaya scored the third goal for the Peace Boys before Kehinde Adeyemi scored at the death to give Sunshine Stars a consolation.
