Nathan Tella the hero as Leverkusen Knock Out Bayern Munich in DFB Pokal

Nigerian forward Nathan Tella was the hero as Bayer Leverkusen eliminated Bayern Munich from the DFB Pokal with a 1-0 victory, securing their place in the quarter-finals.

Tella entered the match in the 61st minute and wasted no time making his mark. Just eight minutes later, he found the back of the net with a perfectly placed header from Alejandro Grimaldo’s cross, delivering the decisive blow to Bayern Munich.

The goal highlighted Tella’s sharpness and ability to step up in crucial moments, reaffirming his growing importance to Leverkusen.

The match also saw an unprecedented moment as Bayern Munich’s legendary goalkeeper Manuel Neuer received the first red card of his professional career. In the 17th minute, Neuer was sent off for a reckless challenge on Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong outside the penalty area.

Playing with ten men for over 70 minutes, Bayern struggled to maintain their usual dominance.

Despite being a man down, Bayern created chances but lacked the finishing touch, particularly in the absence of injured star Harry Kane. Kingsley Coman came closest in the first half, but his effort failed to break the deadlock.

Tella’s introduction changed the game for Leverkusen, with his goal proving to be the difference.

Leverkusen’s defence held firm in the final stages, repelling Bayern’s late push for an equaliser.

What’s Next?

The victory keeps Leverkusen’s hopes alive of defending their DFB Pokal title, while Bayern’s loss raises questions about their consistency under Vincent Kompany.
