On Monday January 4th 2021, the governing body for cricket in Nigeria, the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF), announced through its Secretary-General, Taiwo Oriss, that the Second edition of the national U-17 cricket Championships has been postponed to enable the federation to abide by the regulations set down by the Country’s ministry of Health in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Championships were billed to hold between the 7th and 31st of January 2021 across the 6 geo-political zones of the country. They would now hold tentatively between the 15th of January and 7th of February 2021. The zones and their constituent states are; North East (Borno); South East (Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo); North Central (FCT, Kogi, Kwara, Plateau); South West (Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo); South South (Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Rivers); North West (Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, Zamfara).
There would be 28 male and female teams slugging it out in the zonal qualification rounds between January 15 and January 24, with the finals taking place between January 29 and February 7.
