NBA greatest of all time coach – Phil Jackson or Gregg Popovich?

Even the player you consider the greatest of all time basketball player believes Michael Jordan is the greatest of all time, but what about the greatest of all time coach?

Pat Riley, Phil Jackson, Greg Popovich will easily come to mind with many suggesting Popovich is the greatest of all time considering what he achieved with lesser of quality at his disposal compared to Phil Jackson.

Phil has been considered by many as the greatest ever for revolutionising the sport, worked with super stars and his numbers as a coach is second to none.

1. Phil Jackson

Phil Jackson was a two-time NBA champion has a player winning the title with New York Knicks in 1970 and 1973.

He was an eleven-time NBA champion (1991–1993, 1996–1998 with Chicago Bulls, 2000–2002, 2009, 2010 with Los Angeles Lakers) as a coach.

Phil was a four-time NBA All-Star Game head coach (1992, 1996, 2000, 2009) and NBA Coach of the Year (1996).

2. Gregg Popovich

Unlike Phil Jackson, Gregg Popovich has been a one team man. Athough he had stints as an assistant coach at Warriors before becoming a coach at San Antonio Spurs where he has been since 1996.

Gregg is a five-time NBA champions with San Antonio Spurs in 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2014) as an head coach.

He has been named the NBA Coach of the Year on three occasions (2003, 2012, 2014), he has also been selected as All-Star Game head coach four-times (2005, 2011, 2013, 2016).

He has been credited with making San Antonio Spurs an house hold name and putting the franchise up among the elite franchise.

3. Pat Riley

The former Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks coach won the NBA title has a player in 1972 with Los Angeles Lakers.

Pat Riley won the NBA title as an head coach five-times (1982, 1985, 1987, 1988 with Los Angeles Lakers and 2006 with Miami Heat).

He was named NBA Coach of the Year on three different occasions (1990, 1993, 1997) and was a nine-time NBA All-Star Game head coach (1982, 1983, 1985–1990, 1993).

Pat Riley like Phil Jackson have won the NBA title as a player and a coach.

If we go by numbers you will easily pick Phil Jackson and we also feel he is the greatest of all time not only for the what won but also for what he did for the sport.
