NBA Opening Night: Warriors beat Lakers as D’Tigers stars Shine

The NBA is officially back, and opening night delivered everything Nigerian fans could hope for. There were big performances, thrilling moments, and Nigerian stars proudly representing on basketball’s biggest stage.

Gabe Vincent came off the bench for the Los Angeles Lakers in their matchup against the Golden State Warriors. Meanwhile, Josh Okogie featured for the Houston Rockets, coached by fellow Nigerian Ime Udoka, in their game against the Oklahoma City Thunder led by Shai Gilgeous Alexander. Okogie brought his usual energy and defense. However, the Thunder narrowly won a tight double overtime contest that kept fans entertained until the final whistle.

Warriors Beat Lakers as Butler Steals the Show

The Golden State Warriors opened their season with a 119 109 win over the Los Angeles Lakers. Jimmy Butler III led the charge with a career high 31 points in his Warriors debut. He showed confidence, control, and leadership throughout the game. As a result, Golden State looked sharp from start to finish.

Key performers were Jimmy Butler III with 31 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Stephen Curry added 23 points, four assists, and three steals. Jonathan Kuminga contributed 17 points, nine rebounds, and six assists, while Buddy Hield hit five three pointers on his way to 17 points.

Luka Dončić Makes Lakers History

Despite the loss, Luka Dončić impressed in his first game as a Laker. He scored 43 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and dished out nine assists. He joined Kobe Bryant and Elgin Baylor as the only Lakers to score 40 or more points in a season opener. It was an early sign that he is ready to lead this new chapter in Los Angeles.

The final score was Golden State Warriors 119, Los Angeles Lakers 109.
