Ndidi on target as Leicester City trounce Southampton
Super Eagles midfielder nets third goal of the season
Wilfred Ndidi has continued with his hot goalscoring run for Leicester City as they defeated Southampton 4-1 to go top of the Championship. The Foxes picked up their fifth win in six matches this season in convincing fashion.
After nearly leaving the club on transfer deadline day, Ndidi was handed a starting berth by manager Enzo Maresca for the trip to the South Coast to face Southampton.
The Foxes wasted no time in opening the scoring as Jamie Vardy scored after only 21 seconds with a typical accomplished finish from inside the box to give his side the lead.
Leicester City doubled their advantage in the 18th minute through forward Kasey McAteer, who scored his third league goal for the Foxes to put the two up.
Southampton pulled one back seven minutes later through Samuel Edozie as they sought a way back into the game.
In first half added time, Ndidi whipped out his magic hat. The midfielder received the ball from Stephy Mavididi inside the box before faking a shot with his left foot and leaving a defender on the floor. The midfielder then side-footed his effort into the back of the net with aplomb for his third goal of the season.
Mavididi added his name to the scoresheet in the 67th minute to seal the result for the Foxes. Southampton finished with ten men after Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana received his marching orders in the 97th minute.
Kelechi Iheanacho also had a cameo off the bench for the Foxes as he replaced Vardy after 84 minutes. Joe Aribo also made an appearance off the bench for Southampton, replacing Che Adams after 78 minutes.
