Ndidi scores again as Leicester City spank Aribo’s Southampton

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi scored his second consecutive goal for Leicester City in their 5-0 bashing of Southampton at the King Power Stadium.

Championship leaders Leicester City welcomed fellow promotion hopefuls Southampton to the King Power Stadium in what was a crucial encounter for both sides.

Super Eagles midfielder Ndidi had previously scored for the Foxes over the weekend in their 2-1 win over West Brom, earning him a starting shirt again under coach Enzo Maresca. However, Kelechi Iheanacho was conspicuously missing from the starting lineup. Meanwhile, Joe Aribo, who has been in brilliant form recently, started for Southampton.

In a thrilling match at the King Power Stadium, Leicester City showcased their dominance with a commanding 5-0 victory over Southampton. The game was marked by standout performances and crucial moments that ultimately left Leicester just one win away from promotion.

The first half saw Fatawu at the center of the action, as he opened the scoring in the 21st minute. However, controversy ensued as a challenge from Faes and an offside call stirred debate among fans and officials alike. Despite Southampton’s efforts to defend, City’s swift attacks proved challenging to contain, with the visitors forced to make an early substitution as Smallbone replaced Rothwell due to injury. Heading into halftime, City held a 1-0 lead, displaying control over Southampton’s attacks.

The second half kicked off with Southampton attempting to capitalize on a quick shot, but City’s defense stood firm, blocking the attempt.

The intensity of the game rose as Southampton earned several free-kicks, signaling a feisty start to the half. However, it was Ndidi who extended City’s lead in the 62nd minute with a powerful header, putting them ahead 2-0. Despite sporadic attacks from Southampton, City maintained control, with most of the opposition’s efforts thwarted by offside calls.

The match reached a crescendo in the final minutes as Fatawu delivered a stunning goal in the 75th minute, followed by Vardy’s contribution in the 79th minute, further solidifying City’s dominance with a 4-0 lead.

Fatawu then completed his hat-trick in the 81st minute, sending the home crowd into a frenzy and earning a standing ovation as he was substituted off in the 87th minute. City comfortably saw out the remaining minutes, showcasing their superiority and securing a resounding victory.

Overall, Leicester City’s commanding performance, highlighted by Fatawu’s hat-trick heroics, leaves them on the brink of promotion. With control, swift attacks, and solid defense, City’s 5-0 triumph over Southampton underscores their determination and prowess as they aim for promotion to the next level of competition.
