Ndifreke Effiong’s penalty sends Rivers United back to NPFL top spot
Rivers United reclaimed the top spot in the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table with a narrow 1-0 victory over Abia Warriors at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt on Sunday, November 24, 2024.
Ndifreke Effiong scored the decisive goal from the penalty spot in the 58th minute, securing all three points for the Pride of Rivers. The result sees Rivers United, led by former Super Eagles head coach Finidi George, leapfrog Remo Stars at the summit of the league table.
Remo Stars slipped to second place after a disappointing 2-0 defeat away to Katsina United.
After 13 matches, Rivers United now sit atop the standings with 25 points, while Remo Stars are second with 23 points. The league’s halfway stage is heating up as teams battle for supremacy in the NPFL.
