New-signing Chidera Ejuke reveals what he will do for Sevilla
Sevilla have made a significant addition to their squad by signing Nigerian forward Chidera Ejuke on a free transfer. The 26-year-old Super Eagles star joins the Spanish club after an impressive loan spell at Belgian giants Royal Antwerp last season.
After his unveiling at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan, the wing-wizard shared his thoughts with the club media, revealing he aims to help the club achieve its targets.
Ejuke, born in Zaria, Nigeria, began his European career with Valerenga in Norway in 2017. Over two seasons, he made 59 appearances and scored 15 goals. His successful stint in Norway led to a move to Heerenveen in the Netherlands, where he had a standout 2019/20 season with 10 goals and six assists. This performance caught the attention of CSKA Moscow.
Primarily a left winger, Ejuke is known for his versatility and has played various attacking positions throughout his career. He has earned eight caps for the Super Eagles, showcasing his skills on the international stage.
After his unveiling at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium, Ejuke expressed his excitement and outlined what Sevilla fans can expect from him in the upcoming LaLiga season. “I like to have the ball, dribble, be direct, and score goals,” he said. “I aim to help the team achieve its goals.”
During his loan stint at Royal Antwerp, Ejuke demonstrated his abilities by scoring five goals and providing five assists in 21 starts. His impressive stats include an 85% pass accuracy, 80.3% accuracy for long balls, and 83 completed dribbles, which caught the eye of Sevilla’s recruitment team.
Sevilla’s Director Victor Orta praised Ejuke’s well-rounded skill set, emphasising his defensive and offensive capabilities. “He presses well out of possession, and we had to move quickly because he was free,” Orta explained. “He tackles, he has pace, he dribbles, he gets into the box – we are really happy to have him.”
Sevilla fans are eager to see Ejuke in action as the team aims to improve on their 14th-place finish in the 2023/24 LaLiga campaign. With his blend of creativity, goal-scoring ability, and defensive work rate, Ejuke could be a crucial addition as Sevilla targets a return to European competition.
