New Southampton signing Paul Onuachu hailed by Saints boss
Southampton manager Nathan Jones has hailed Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu as a significant addition to his squad following his deadline day move from Belgium.
Super Eagle Paul Onuachu put pen to paper on a move to St Mary’s Stadium until 2026.
At 6’7 tall, Onuachu is the top scorer in Belgian football this season with 16 goals in 19 games before his move to England.
The 28-year old scored 29 league goals in the 2020/21 season to attract transfer interest from top European clubs since then. It is Southampton who have secured his services for a deal worth €20m.
Saints Boss said of Onuachu “Paul is a significant signing for us and completes what has been an extremely positive month in terms of recruitment.
“He’s a handful to play against, has got a tremendous record throughout his career and he’s also someone who brings great experience with him, so he’ll be a really positive addition to the squad.”
Southampton have been searching for more firepower as they endeavour to climb off the bottom of the Premier League table, striking deals for midfielder Carlos Alcaraz, winger Mislav Orsic and full-back James Bree earlier in the window.
Winger Kamaldeen Sulemana has also joined from Rennes, sealing a club-record move on Deadline Day.
Paul Onuachu will join International teammate Joe Aribo at Southampton, Aribo a summer addition from Glasgow Rangers has played a bit part role since the appointment of Nathan Jones.
