By the 30th minute, Nigeria was cruising with a 3-0 lead after Taiwo Adegoke and Fairdat Abdulwahab found the back of the net. The Flamingos overwhelmed the New Zealand defence, showcasing their attacking prowess and leaving their opponents shell-shocked.

After a strong first-half display, Nigeria continued their attacking intent in the second period. Afolabi added the fourth goal shortly after the restart, extending the Flamingos’ lead to 4-0.

New Zealand managed to pull one back through Saxon in the 60th minute, offering the Kiwis a moment of relief. However, it was merely a consolation as Nigeria maintained their control over the game.

Nigeria could have extended their lead further, but Harmony Chidi and Peace Effiong missed several chances to increase the scoreline. Despite those missed opportunities, the Nigerian girls remained composed and saw out the game comfortably, securing an emphatic 4-1 victory

The win gives Nigeria a perfect start in their Group as they aim to advance to the knockout stages. With the confidence from this performance, the Flamingos will now turn their attention to their upcoming group fixtures against Ecuador and Dominican Republic, hoping to maintain their momentum.

This comprehensive victory sets the tone for what could be a promising tournament for Nigeria’s young stars under the guidance of Coach Bankole Olowookere.
