New Zealand post 409 runs, but lose eight wickets on day one against Sri Lanka

New Zealand have surpassed the 400-run mark, but they lost eight wickets in the process on day one of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Dunedin.

Martin Guptill was a large contributor to the Black Caps’ effort as he ended his innings with a knock of 156 off 234 balls. The batsman managed to reach a combined 56 runs before his partner Tom Latham was caught and bowled by Suranga Lakmal for 22.

Despite losing an important wicket, Kane Williamson and Guptill were able to push on and take New Zealand past 200 runs before the former was sent packing by Nuwan Pradeep for 88.
