Newcastle United booked their passage into the quarterfinals of the Carabao Cup with a 3-0 humbling of Manchester United at Old Trafford in the fourth round.
Fresh from beating Manchester City in the previous round, Newcastle United were out for revenge against the side that defeated them in the final of the competition last season.
Manchester United came into the match on the back of a damaging 3-0 defeat at home to rivals Manchester City at the weekend, and manager Erik ten Hag was beginning to feel the pressure.
Newcastle went about their business professionally, and went ahead through Paraguayan forward Miguel Almiron in the 28th minute. The forward was found after a powerful run by right-back Tino Livramento, and he finished over Andre Onana to open the scoring.
The Magpies doubled their advantage eight minutes later through Chelsea loanee Lewis Hall, who finished smartly into the far post after the ball fell to him just inside the box.
Newcastle continued to control the proceedings and duly added to their advantage on the hour mark as former Arsenal midfielder Joe Willock ran through the Red Devils’ midfield before firing a fine effort into the bottom corner to seal the win for Eddie Howe’s side.
Manchester United have now lost five of their ten home matches to start the season for the first time since 1930. Newcastle United have won at Old Trafford for the first time since 2013, and will now face Chelsea in the quarterfinals next month.
