Neymar suffers season-ending injury on international duty

Brazilian superstar Neymar has received news of a terrible injury he picked up this week that may keep him out of action until after the 2024 Copa America.

Al-Hilal forward Neymar was in action for Brazil in their CONMEBOL 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Uruguay when he suffered his injury. The 31-year-old was stretchered off the pitch in tears after a coming-together with an Uruguay player in the first half.

Results from tests conducted after the game revealed that the former PSG man had ruptured his ACL and damaged his meniscus. His injury would require surgery, after which he will have a lengthy recovery time which may span for 9-11 months.

Neymar is crestfallen and disappointed, according to his posts on social media, after his injury. The forward was pelted with pop-corn by fans after his country’s 1-1 draw against Venezuela last week. He only just recovered in August from a surgery that kept him out for around four months during his time in Paris.

Multiple stars and former teammates of Neymar’s have shown their support for him after his latest serious injury, including Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Vinicius Jr, Gabriel Jesus and several others.

This latest injury means that Neymar’s dream of winning a major international trophy with Brazil may have to wait until the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
