NFF Announces Decision On Match-Fixing Case Involving Cynosure FC Vs E-World United/Liberty Lions

The Nationwide League One (NLO) Promotion Playoff can now proceed after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Disciplinary Committee dismissed Cynosure FC’s protest and confirmed E-World United as winners of the Calabar Centre.
This decision clears the way for E-World United to join FC One Rocket, Ozalla FC, and Ahudiya FC in the Slot 4 Promotion Playoff, with all four clubs set to battle for one available spot in the Nigeria National League (NNL).
Cynosure Protest Dismissed
Cynosure FC had protested the outcome of the final Calabar group match between E-World United and Liberty Lions FC, claiming it was manipulated. They alleged that Liberty fielded only seven players to favour E-World, who eventually won the game 3–1.
However, the NFF Disciplinary Committee, in its meeting on 2 July 2025, found the protest baseless and unproven. The committee noted that:
- The kickoff time was rescheduled from 4:00pm to 8:00am at the request of Cynosure’s chairman to ensure simultaneous matches.
- Liberty Lions began the match with seven players due to lateness but completed the game with eleven, as permitted by FIFA rules.
- Cynosure FC failed to provide evidence of match fixing.
- The initial fine of ₦500,000 imposed on Cynosure FC by the NLO was upheld, but the six-month suspension of Cynosure’s chairman was lifted.
Promotion Playoff Set to Resume
With the protest resolved, the Port Harcourt Centre playoff, which had been suspended, will now resume. E-World United, as confirmed group winners, will face FC One Rocket, Ozalla FC, and Ahudiya FC for the single promotion ticket available in that zone.
NLO Chief Operating Officer Olushola Ogunnowo had earlier confirmed the playoff was put on hold due to the ongoing appeal by Cynosure FC. Now that the NFF has ruled, clubs can focus on the decisive fixtures ahead.
What’s Next
The new dates for the Port Harcourt Centre fixtures are expected to be announced shortly. All eyes will be on which team can come out on top and secure a place in the second-tier Nigeria National League.
The decision brings clarity and relief to participating teams and stakeholders, who have been awaiting confirmation on the playoff’s status.
