NFF Executive Board member graces final of 16-team grassroots tournament in Akwa Ibom
The 2024 Immortality Football Club/Executive Sports Management Championship concluded on Thursday afternoon in Uyo with a thrilling grand finale. The event saw the attendance of numerous prominent sports personalities, including NFF Executive Board Member Rt. Hon. Otuekong Essien Nse who took the ceremonial kickoff.
Eagleeye Football Academy emerged victorious, defeating New Flame Football Academy to be crowned champions for the second consecutive year.
In the battle for the 3rd-place prize, Blessed Stars Football Academy edged out Maccito Academy with a 4-3 penalty shootout win after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
The tournament featured 16 teams in Akwa Ibom, providing fans with highly entertaining and closely contested matches.
For the individual awards, Blessed Stars Academy striker Peter Ita secured the top-scorer award by netting nine goals in four games, while Maccito Academy’s goalkeeper was honoured as the Best Goalkeeper.
In their chats with SportsRation correspondent Nsikakabasi Akpan at the Uyo Township Stadium, fans were effusive in their praise of the tournament and the talent on display. One supporter remarked, “This championship has truly showcased the incredible skills of these young players. It’s amazing to see such high-quality football right here in Uyo.” Another fan added, “The organization and level of competition were top-notch. It’s clear that the future of Nigerian football is very bright with these upcoming stars.”
The event was also graced by Akwa Ibom State FA Board members, led by Chairman Mr. Samuel Umoh, Akwa United FC Chairman Elder Paul Bassey, and several other distinguished personalities, underscoring the importance and success of the championship.
