NFF President receives congratulatory message from Akwa Ibom State FA following election as WAFU Zone B 1st Vice President

The Akwa Ibom State Football Association (AKSFA) has extended its congratulations to the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, on his election as the 1st Vice President of the West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B.

Alhaji Gusau was elected to the position on Friday, 22 November 2024, during the CAF African Schools Football Championship held in Niamey, Niger Republic. The event also served as the qualifying tournament for the WAFU B zone, comprising seven countries: Nigeria, Togo, Benin Republic, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Niger Republic, and Côte d’Ivoire.

Since assuming office as NFF President in September 2022, Gusau has played a key role in shaping football governance in Nigeria. He has also served in various influential positions within continental football, including a role on the Organising Committee for the African Nations Championship (CHAN).

In a statement, the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Football Association, Mr Samuel Umoh, expressed pride in Gusau’s achievement and confidence in his ability to excel in the new role.

Mr Umoh said:
“This is a well-deserved honour for Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau. His leadership skills and vast experience in football administration have already had a profound impact on the development of the game in Nigeria and beyond. We are confident that he will perform excellently as the 1st Vice President of WAFU B and take on even greater responsibilities in the future.”

Alhaji Gusau’s commitment to advancing football at all levels was recently demonstrated during his visit to Uyo, where he attended a one-day Football Governance and Leadership seminar organised by the Akwa Ibom State Football Association.
