NFF submits Flying Eagles’ 20-man squad for 2024 WAFU U20 championship

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has released the 20-man squad for the 2024 West African Football Union (WAFU) U20 Championship, set to be hosted in Togo.

The squad, compiled by Flying Eagles’ head coach Aliyu Zubairu, features some notable names, including Daniel Daga, Nathaniel Nwosu, and Bameyi Daniel. However, Daga, a key player, has been replaced by Niger Tornadoes midfielder Sabiu Ibrahim due to passport issues.

Below is the complete list:

  • Goalkeepers: Saliu Nasiru, Nathaniel Nwosu, Ayuma Israel
  • Defenders: Abdullahi Ibrahim, Oyebanjo Raphael, Alabi Suleiman, Magairi Adamu, Bameyi Daniel
  • Midfielders: Igboke Obinna, Aliyu Aruna, Akinfenwa Musa, Sabiu Ibrahim (replacement for Daniel Daga)
  • Forwards: Harcourt Ebenezer, Adamu Musa, Jephta Degol, Ibrahim Olalekan, Charles Agada, Oliseh Divine, Amole Bidemi, Anerhi Nathaniel

Five players are also on standby and will accompany the team when they depart on Tuesday.

Group Stage Fixtures and Opponents

The Flying Eagles are drawn in Group B alongside Burkina Faso and Cote d’Ivoire. Nigeria will open their campaign against Burkina Faso on Friday, 20th October 2024 and wrap up the group stage with a clash against Cote d’Ivoire six days later.

Group Stage Breakdown:

  • Group A: Ghana, Togo, Niger Republic, Benin Republic
  • Group B: Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire

The tournament kicks off on Thursday, 17th October 2024, with hosts Togo taking on Niger at the Kegue Stadium in Lomé.

Nigeria will aim for a strong start in their opener as they look to secure a place in the knockout rounds and make a statement in the regional competition.
