NFF: We will not beg anyone to play for Nigeria
The Nigeria Football Federation – NFF has declared it will not beg anyone to play for Nigeria in a bid to ensure only committed players are selected to represent the country.
This decision was contained in a communique from the NFF Executive Committee meeting held on Monday April 17 at the Federation`s secretariat in Abuja.
Item six (6) on the communique read ” The Board expressed distaste with recent results of the Super Eagles and the U23 Boys, and fully endorsed the NFF President’s stated position that the Federation will never beg any player to wear the nation’s colours.
” It added that whoever is not motivated for one reason or the other to represent Nigeria should always be bold enough to state this at the point of invitation.
” Any perceived lackadaisical attitude by any player wearing Nigeria’s colours at international level will no longer be treated with kid gloves, ” NFF resolved.
Recall that NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau had informed players Super Eagles players not to honour invitation if they will not be committed.
The Executive Committee unanimously backed the Presidents charge plus a resolve to take action against players who approach national team engagements with lackadaisical attitudes.
This follows recent disappointing performances posted by the Super Eagles players in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations 0-1 home loss vs Guinea-Bissau and the failure of the U-23 Eagles to qualify for the U-23 Cup of Nations.
