N’Golo Kante’s Premier League return stalls as Al-Ittihad rejects West Ham bid

N’Golo Kante’s potential return to the Premier League has encountered a setback, with Al-Ittihad rejecting West Ham United’s initial offer for the French midfielder. West Ham’s bid of £15 million was turned down by Al-Ittihad, who are holding out for at least £25 million.

Despite reports indicating that Kante is content in Saudi Arabia, a return to England could be enticing for the former Chelsea and Leicester City star. The Athletic (via The Daily Mail) reported that West Ham made a verbal offer, but Al-Ittihad is reluctant to part with the mercurial midfielder for less than their valuation.

New West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui is a known admirer of Kante, having reportedly sought to sign him during his tenure at Real Madrid. Lopetegui could push for a deal, seeing Kante as a key addition to bolster West Ham’s midfield.

Kante joined Al-Ittihad on a lucrative contract after leaving Chelsea in 2023. His time at Chelsea was marked by immense success, including winning the Premier League, Champions League, Europa League, and FA Cup. Kante also played a pivotal role in Leicester City’s historic title win before his move to Chelsea in 2016.

In Saudi Arabia, Kante has continued to display his quality, contributing four goals and six assists in 44 appearances. However, Al-Ittihad only managed a fifth-place finish in the Saudi Pro League last season.

Kante remains a valuable asset for both club and country. His performances at Euro 2024, where France reached the semi-finals, demonstrated that his quality is still top-notch.

A potential move to West Ham would end Kante’s brief stint in Saudi Arabia and bring him back to the Premier League, where his experience and skill could significantly benefit the Hammers.
