Nigeria/Benin Republic ready to replace Guinea as 2025 AFCON Hosts. Amaju Pinnick reveals.

Guinea Conakry were awarded hosting rights of the 2025 African cup of Nations – AFCON In 2019 by CAF. With three years to the tournament , the country is yet to show any real signs of readiness to host the continent.

CAF is considering a change of host for the 2025 AFCON. NFF President Amaju Pinnick on Tuesday revealed per completesports.com that Nigeria/Benin Republic have indicated interest in replacing Guinea as 2025 AFCON Hosts.

Pinnick expressed optimism CAF will endorse the Nigeria/Benin Republic as co-host for the 2025 AFCON. The Delta Born Sports administrator also revealed the bid has received the backing of the Federal Government via the Ministry of Youths and Sports.

Pinnick said “We are putting a bid together for a co-hosting of the tournament with the Benin Republic,”

“The Minister of Sports has given his endorsement on the bidding.

“It is high time Nigeria hosted an international tournament because there are many advantages attached to hosting of such competitions.

“There are many countries bidding for the competition; we are confident of getting the nod from Caf.

“We are working with the ministry of sports to ensure that Nigeria gets the hosting right.” the NFF President Concluded.

Morroco and Algeria Sportsration gathered have seperatly indicated interest and will pride on their already satisfactory standard of facilities to push for the hosting rights of the 2025 AFCON.

Nigeria have hosted the African cup of Nations on two occasions (1980, 2000). The Super Eagles reached the final on both occasions the first a 3-0 win over Algeria in 1980 before losing in a disputed penalty shootout to Cameroon in 2000 which Nigeria co-hostsd with Ghana.

Potential Co-hosts Benin Republic have never hosted the African Cup of Nations tournament .
