Nigeria dethrones Rwanda, wins Women’s Invitational T20 tournament
Nigeria’s female cricket team were crowned champions of the Women’s Invitational T20 competition in Nigeria after they overcame their Rwandan counterparts in the final on Sunday. They snatched the trophy from the East Africans, who won the last edition of the competition.
Nigeria started the competition in great form as they faced Cameroon, Ghana and Sierra Leone, winning all three games before losing the final group game to Rwanda by 39 runs. The Rwandans, on the other hand, won all of their four games to finish on top of the Round Robin group format.
The best two teams, Rwanda and Nigeria, faced off in the final after the third place match between Sierra Leone and Cameroon ended with a nine-wicket win for Sierra Leone.
The Yellow Greens of Nigeria showed their fighting spirit in Lagos to overcome their defeat to Rwanda in the preliminary round and pick up an impressive win by nine runs. Salome Sunday scored 48 runs for the winners in the final in an impressive performance.
