Ashanti Akpan has spoken publicly for the first time after ending her long association with Chelsea, describing the club as a place that shaped her life and career.

In an emotional message shared on Instagram, Akpan reflected on her time at the club and the memories she made along the way.

“After 13 years, it’s time to say goodbye to my childhood club,” she wrote. “This club has been a massive part of my life and has shaped so much of who I am today. It’s given me memories, experiences, and opportunities that I’ll forever be grateful for.”

Akpan also thanked those who supported her development during her time at Chelsea.

“To all of the players, coaches, and fans, thank you. You’ve helped me grow both as a player and person, and your support over the years has meant so much. Chelsea will always have a special place in my heart,” she added.

Her departure marks the end of a significant chapter, having grown from a young academy player into a professional footballer at the club’s Cobham training base.

Akpan’s move to Newcastle United is seen as an important step in her career as she looks to secure regular playing time. After previous loan spells at Birmingham City and Southampton, the midfielder is now focused on establishing herself at her new club.

For Nigerian fans, her progress will be closely followed. With eligibility to represent the Super Falcons through her father, Akpan is entering a key stage of her career where her international future could soon take shape.
