Nigeria-eligible Vicky Lopez creates unique Barça history
As she shares the moment with her mentor, Oshoala
Victoria López Serrano Felix popularly known as Vicky Lopez has created a remarkable record after scoring a goal in Barcelona Femini’s big win against Levante Las Planas.
The FIFA Women’s U-17 player of the tournament wrote her name in the history book with a fine strike as her mentor, Asisat Oshoala shared the moment with her.
At the time of this report, Barcelona have scored six goals against Levante Las Planas, and Vicky’s strike was Barca’s 4th.
At 16 years, 5 months, and 27 days, Vicky López has become the youngest goalscorer in the history of Barça.
As she has now surpassed the record set by Patri Guijarro who held the record at 17 years, 3 months, and 17 days for Barca femini.
And also surpassed, Ansu Fati’s record set at 16 years and 304 days.
It is well documented that Vicky Lopez idolizes Asisat Oshoala and was open to playing for Nigeria according to her former agent, Joshua King Dada who was quoted by OJB Sport.
“Vicky loves Nigeria, she used to tell us back then. It’s funny because then, she told us meeting Asisat would be a dream come true for her. But now they are teammates.”
Born to a Nigerian mother and a Spanish father, her father was quoted by ANS to be aware of the Nigerian interest in Vicky.
“Last week she was summoned to train with Spain U17s, Nigeria is still an option but no one from the Federation has contacted us,” her dad said, according to ANS.
“There might be problems for Nigeria to call her up in the future. It would make Vicky very excited if she receives a call-up to play for Nigeria, but it is very likely that in September she will be called up for the Women’s U17 EURO qualifiers,” he added.
With the popularity she gaining, it might be difficult for Nigeria to convince her to switch allegiance.
