Nigeria-eligible Vicky Lopez fires Spain to #U17WWC semis
Set to play Germany in all European semis
Victoria López Serrano Felix, popularly known as Vicky Lopez has fired the Spain Women U-17 team into the final of the FIFA Women’s semifinal.
The 16-year-old forward who is born in Spain to a Spanish father and Nigerian mum scored both goals as Spain U-17 beat Japan U-17 2-1 in the last quarterfinals.
Japan’s Momoko Tanikawa scored the first goal of the game in the 66th minute, Vicky Lopez equalized in the 87th minute, and then completed her brace in the 90+3’minute.
Vicky Lopez’s brace was good enough to take Spain to the last four where they will face Germany in the semis.
The Barcelona Femini player became a famous player for scoring 60 goals in 17 matches during the 2020–21 youth league season for the Real Madrid CFF youth team.
Vicky Lopez currently plays alongside her idol, Asisat Oshoala, and the 16-year-old is reportedly open to playing for Nigeria in the future according to OJB Sports.
“Vicky loves Nigeria, she used to tell us back then. It’s funny because then, she told us meeting Asisat would be a dream come true for her. But now they are teammates,” Joshua King Dada said as quoted by OBJ Sport
Despite playing for the Spain U-17 team, Vicky Lopez is eligible to play for Nigeria because of her Nigerian mother.
