Nigeria finishes in second place at 13th African games

Nigeria finished in second place behind Egypt at the 13th African games in Ghana. The African Games in Ghana came to a close on Saturday, March 23, 2024, marking the end of 16 eventful days in Accra, Kumasi, and Cape Coast.

The closing ceremony was a spectacle to behold, leaving a lasting impression on all attendees.

The ceremony culminated with a parade featuring flags from all participating countries, accompanied by the electrifying music of Nigerian hip-hop star Tiwa Savage. The crowd was delighted by the pulsating beats, adding to the celebratory atmosphere of the occasion.

Egypt, perennial champions, added two more gold medals on the final day, bringing their total gold count to 101 and reclaiming the top spot at the continental sports extravaganza.

Of the 54 countries in Africa, 53 were in attendance, with only Cape Verde absent from the 13th edition of the Games.

  2. Nigeria: 47 gold, 33 silver, 40 bronze (Total: 120 medals)
  3. South Africa: 32 gold, 32 silver, 42 bronze (Total: 106 medals)
  4. Algeria: 29 gold, 38 silver, 47 bronze (Total: 114 medals)
  5. Tunisia: 21 gold, 27 silver, 39 bronze (Total: 87 medals)

Despite the initial delay, Ghana successfully hosted a memorable championship, leaving a lasting legacy for future editions of the African Games.
