Nigeria Qualify for 2027 World Championships After Record Run at World Relays

Team Nigeria produced an impressive display at the ongoing World Relays in Gaborone by qualifying for the 2027 World Championships in China.
The Nigerian mixed 4x100m relay team finished fourth in Heat 1 after running a strong race against some of the world’s best teams.
The quartet of Favour Ashe, Jennifer Chukwuka-Obi, Chidera Ezeakor and Maria Thompson recorded a time of 40.24 seconds.
Nigeria stayed in contention for the top positions for most of the race before finishing behind Canada national athletics team, Germany national athletics team and Netherlands national athletics team.
Although they ended the race in fourth place, their performance was enough to secure qualification for the 2027 World Championships. The team also set a new African record in the mixed 4x100m relay event.
Canada won the race with a world record time of 40.07 seconds. Germany came second in 40.15 seconds, while the Netherlands finished third with a time of 40.20 seconds.
The result marks another positive moment for Nigerian athletics as the country continues to impress at the World Relays in Botswana.
