Nigeria Striker Chuba Akpom: Ajax Coach Says He Should Stay at the Club
Ajax coach Francesco Farioli has made it clear that he does not want Nigerian striker Chuba Akpom to leave the team this month.
Akpom has been linked with a move to several French Ligue 1 clubs after rumors that he is unhappy at Ajax. The 29-year-old forward joined Ajax in 2023, but his time at the club has been a mix of ups and downs. However, he has been more stable this season under Farioli’s coaching.
So far this season, Akpom has scored seven goals and made one assist in 37 matches across all competitions. Despite this, rumors about his possible move continue to grow, with reports saying seven Ligue 1 clubs are interested in him.
But it seems that Akpom will likely stay at Ajax for now. Farioli has expressed his desire for Akpom to remain at the club, despite the transfer talks.
“I am very grateful to the players I have. Look at Chuba (Akpom), he has not always played in his usual position, but his contribution to the team is great. I would rather not have him leave. I am very happy with Akpom,” Farioli said.
Ajax has been struggling in recent years, but they are now only six points behind Eredivisie leaders PSV Eindhoven. With the possibility of winning the league, Akpom may choose to stay in Amsterdam.
