Flamingoes thrash New Zealand to keep U17WWC knockout hopes alive
Nigeria U-17 women’s team, Flamingos, were trashed New Zealand U-17 team 4-0 at Goa on Friday to keep their knockout hopes alive.
Fresh from their disappointing 2-1 defeat against Germany in the first game, the girls put four past New Zealand in a one-sided game.
Flamingos scored the first goal through Amina Bello in the 17th minute of the clash.
Miracle Usani increased Nigeria’s tally in the 33rd minute of the game, the goal was her second of the tournament having scored Nigeria’s only goal against Germany in the first game.
Flamingos wasted up to 5 chances as the scoreline ended 2-0 in favour of Nigeria at halftime.
They resumed the second half just as they ended the first, with many chances begging to be converted.
Flamingos were in cruise control just finding it difficult to increase their tally.
Eventually, they got their third goal in the 74th minute through Taiwo Abiodun who scored a goal of the tournament contender strike.
Substitute Edidiong Etim scored another goal of the tournament strike in the 95th minute to complete a 4-0 win for Nigeria against New Zealand.
Could have been up to 8 for Nigeria should the attackers convert their chances, but in the end, a win which will give Flamingos a huge boost as they face Chile in their last group game.
