Nigeria vs Ghana: All you need to know about today’s CHAN qualifier in Uyo
The Super Eagles will face Ghana’s Black Galaxies at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Saturday, December 28, in the second leg of their 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier.
CHAN Qualification Battle
Nigeria and Ghana are competing in a two-legged tie to secure a spot in the CHAN tournament, which will take place from February 1 to 28, 2025, in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
The first leg ended in a goalless draw, with both teams fielding players exclusively from their domestic leagues, as per CHAN rules.
Key Match Details
The away goal rule will apply, meaning Nigeria must avoid conceding, as a score draw would eliminate the Super Eagles.
Ghana’s Black Galaxies have a strong record against Nigeria in CHAN qualifiers, having denied the Eagles a place in the finals in 2009 and 2023. However, Nigeria’s Coach Daniel Ogunmodede remains confident.
“They may rely on their history of victories over Nigeria, especially in CHAN, but we are not distracted by that,” Ogunmodede said.
Match Officials
The game will be officiated by a Moroccan team, with Hamza El Fariq as the referee. He will be assisted by Abdessamad Abertoune and Zakaria Bouchtaoui, while Hicham Temsamani will act as the fourth official.
Kick-off Time
The match is scheduled to start at 5 PM Nigerian time (17:00 GMT+1).
The winner of this tie will earn a ticket to the 8th African Nations Championship.
