Nigeria Women Football League Secures ₦20bn Backing in Historic Toptier Deal

The Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) has received a major financial boost following the signing of a landmark investment agreement with Toptier Sports Management.
The deal was formally unveiled on Friday, December 19, 2025, at a signing and presentation ceremony held at Fraser Suites, Abuja. It places Nigerian women’s football at the heart of a ₦20 billion private-sector commitment spread over 10 years.
Under the agreement, the NWFL will initially benefit from a five-year investment deal, with an option for renewal after review. The league will receive ₦1 billion every year, with a guaranteed 15 per cent increase annually.
Out of the yearly investment, ₦200 million has been set aside for league administration, while ₦800 million will be used for branding, marketing, and commercial development of the league.
The partnership forms part of Toptier Sports Management’s long-term plan to professionalise the NWFL, strengthen its structures, and position it as a leading women’s football league in Africa.
Speaking at the event, Chief Executive Officer of Toptier Sports Management, Chichi Nwoko, said the agreement reflects a deliberate move away from short-term solutions.
“This is a long-term investment in structure, people, and possibilities. If women’s football in Nigeria is to truly compete globally, it must be built deliberately, funded properly, and managed professionally. That is what this commitment represents,” Nwoko said.
Also speaking, Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, described the partnership as a sign of growing trust in reforms within Nigerian sports.
“This partnership is a clear vote of confidence in the reforms taking place across Nigerian sports. We are intentional about creating an environment where credible private investors can work with government to build sustainable leagues, protect athlete welfare, and grow the sports economy,” Olopade stated.
The deal is expected to usher in a new era of growth, stability, and increased visibility for women’s football in Nigeria.
