Nigerian Academy attracts FIFA Ban for Watford over failed transfer entitlement
The World Football Governing Body FIFA has placed a transfer ban on English club Watford FC for failing to pay the transfer entitlement of Nigerian Academy Megamu for the transfer of Samuel Kalu.
Recall that Super Eagles of Nigeria winger Samuel Kalu joined Watford FC from Girondins Bordeaux in January 2022.
The Megamu Football Academy products transfer should have attracted solidarity compensation but Watford erred, reason for a formal petition to FIFA by the Nigerian outfit.
In an earlier judgement, FIFA, the world football governing body, ruled in favour of Megamu Football Academy, ordering Watford FC to pay the Nigerian club within 45 days.
Watford FC failed to remit the accrued entitlement to the club hence the transfer ban by FIFA.
In a letter signed by FIFA Disciplinary Committee’s Head of Judicial Bodies (Adjudicatory), Julien Deux, and copied to the English Football Association, an international transfer ban has been placed on the Championship club with effect from July 19, 2023.
Also, FIFA requested the English Football Association to enforce a ban on registering new players at the national level for Watford.
As confimred by Watford Observer, the club is confident that the issue is an administrative matter that is close to being resolved but whatever conclusion will include payment to Megamu Football Academy.
