Nigerian-born stars Achiuwa and Agbaji in action as Knicks Beat Raptors 113-108
The New York Knicks secured a 113-108 win over the Toronto Raptors on Monday night, marking their fifth victory in the last six games. While strong performances from Karl-Anthony Towns (24 points, 15 rebounds) and Jalen Brunson (20 points, 11 assists) led the charge, the game also featured notable performances from Nigerian players Precious Achiuwa and Ochai Agbaji.
Achiuwa, who played for 16 minutes, scored 7 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. In a highlight play, Brunson set up Achiuwa with a brilliant between-the-legs assist, showcasing the Nigerian’s quick finishing ability.
Agbaji, also of Nigerian descent, played 31 minutes and contributed 7 points, 4 assists, and 5 rebounds to the Knicks’ win. His well-rounded performance was key in supporting the team throughout the game.
While the Knicks clinched their fifth consecutive victory over the Raptors, Toronto’s OG Anunoby, facing his former team, scored 14 points. Jakob Poeltl finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds, while RJ Barrett led the Raptors with 30 points.
Toronto’s Scottie Barnes had to leave the game after injuring his right ankle midway through the third quarter, which added to the Raptors’ challenges.
Looking ahead, Toronto will face Miami on Thursday, while the Knicks will host Atlanta in the NBA Cup quarterfinals on Wednesday.
