Nigerian club expelled from League

Malumfashi Football Club of Katsina has been expelled from the Nigeria National League (NNL), following breaches to the rules.

The expulsion comes as a result of Malumfashi FC’s repeated violations of the codified rules and regulations governing the NNL. The club failed to participate in two consecutive matches of Conference D in the NNL: Sokoto United vs Malumfashi FC and Malumfashi FC vs City FC of Abuja.

Furthermore, Malumfashi FC had previously failed to attend a rescheduled 45-minute league match on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, against Sokoto United at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna.

Dr. Ayo Abdulrahaman, the Chief Operating Officer of the NNL, explained that Malumfashi’s actions constituted a breach of Article 14.7 of the league’s regulations, which also carries a fine of N1,000,000.00 (One Million Naira only).

In response to the repeated infractions, the league invoked Article 14.10, resulting in the expulsion of Malumfashi from the competition. Additionally, all matches previously played by the club have been nullified in accordance with the league rules.

The Nigeria National League has mandated the Katsina Football Association to assist in the recovery of all fines imposed on Malumfashi, particularly those related to items forcibly taken from referees during the match against Sokoto United in Malumfashi.

Meanwhile, another club could suffer similar fate if they fail to honour this weekends fixture.

Vandrezzer FC did not attend the away game against Madiba FC and will attract sanction if they fail to turn-up for their home games this weekned.
