Nigerian forward Peter Ambrose joins Aberdeen

Aberdeen Football Club has officially announced the signing of Peter Ambrose from Hungarian side Újpest, marking a significant addition to their squad for the upcoming season.

The Nigerian-born center forward joins the Scottish club for an undisclosed fee and has committed to a three-year contract, with Aberdeen holding an option for an additional year in 2027-2028.

Ambrose began his football journey in Nigeria, honing his skills at the Optimum Academy in Abuja before moving to Turkey to join Balikesirspor’s youth setup in 2021. His impressive performances earned him a promotion to the senior team, where he quickly established himself as a prolific goalscorer.

In November 2022, Ambrose made a move to Hungary, signing with Újpest, one of the most decorated clubs in the Nemzeti Bajnokság I league. He made his debut in the Hungarian top-flight against Zalaegerszeg on November 5, 2022, and went on to feature in 45 league matches during his tenure with the club.

Ambrose’s standout season saw him net nine goals in the league, securing the second spot on the team’s goalscoring chart behind Matija Ljujic. His performances caught the attention of several clubs across Europe, but Ambrose ultimately chose to continue his career with Aberdeen.

The young striker is set to join his new teammates as they prepare for the upcoming season during the club’s pre-season training, commencing in the coming days.
