Nigerian stars Iwobi and Bassey return to Old Trafford for Premier League opener

As the 2024/25 Premier League season begins, all eyes will be on Old Trafford for Friday night’s opening match between Manchester United and Fulham. For Fulham’s Nigerian stars Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey, this game holds special significance.

Last season, Fulham, led by Iwobi and Bassey, made headlines with a memorable win at Old Trafford. On that chilly February evening, Bassey scored a powerful goal to open the scoring, while Iwobi sealed the victory with a stoppage-time goal. This triumph was Fulham’s first league win at Old Trafford in 21 years and dealt a blow to Manchester United’s Champions League hopes.

Iwobi’s performance was exceptional; he created four chances, made four key passes, won all his tackles, and contributed significantly in defense with seven recoveries and one interception.

As Fulham returns to Old Trafford, the big question is whether they can replicate their past success. Manchester United, now under new ownership with Sir Jim Ratcliffe, will be eager to start the season on a positive note and seek redemption for last season’s loss.

Fulham, buoyed by their previous victory, will come into the match with confidence. Marco Silva’s team, especially Iwobi and Bassey, has shown they can compete with the best.

With pre-match hype surrounding “The Calvin Bassey and Iwobi Show,” anticipation is high. As the teams gear up, fans are eager to see if Manchester United can get revenge or if Fulham’s Nigerian duo can once again shine.

This season opener is set to be an exciting clash of redemption and ambition, showcasing the talents of Iwobi and Bassey against the backdrop of Manchester United’s high expectations.
