Nigerian striker Saviour Godwin Scores as Al-Okhdood Beat Al-Orobah
Nigeria Super Eagles forward Saviour Godwin was the match-winner for Al-Okhdood as they earned a hard-fought 1-0 win over Al-Orobah FC on Friday evening at the Al-Jouf University Stadium.
Godwin, who has played for Nigeria at youth levels, looked dangerous throughout the match. He scored the only goal of the game in the 24th minute, finishing off a smart pass from Awadh Khamis Al-Faraj.
With just twelve minutes left, Godwin was replaced by Ousmane Barry as Al-Okhdood held on to their narrow lead.
The win lifts Al-Okhdood further away from the relegation zone. They now sit 15th in the table with 23 points from 26 matches, just three points behind today’s opponents, Al-Orobah.
Godwin has been a key player in Al-Okhdood’s fight to avoid relegation, scoring five goals and giving one assist in 23 league appearances this season.
This latest result gave Al-Okhdood their sixth league win of the campaign and marked their first time winning two games in a row. They also beat Al-Ahli FC 2-1 last weekend, with Godwin scoring the winning goal after the team came from behind.
Despite his good form, the 28-year-old was left out of Nigeria’s last squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Rwanda in March.
Godwin, who has played for Nigeria’s U-17 and U-20 teams, made his senior Super Eagles debut in a friendly match against Algeria on 27 September 2022.
He will now hope that his recent performances help him earn a recall to the national team ahead of the four-nation friendly tournament in June.
