Nigerian Striker Victor Boniface expresses grief over bottled title winning chance
Victor Boniface has expressed his grief after Union Saint-Gilloise bottled a chance to win the Belgian Pro League title after a drama-filled final day.
Union Saint-Gilloise were poised to be crowned champions as they led 1-0 vs Club Brugge on Sunday June 5 but a late-twist saw them slip.
Simon Adingra fired Union Saint-Gilloise ahead in the 46th minute. With the clock ticking close to the 90′ minute mark, Club Brugge equalized through Shion Homma before Noa Lang and Cisse Hammer all scored to leave the home fans heartbroken following a 1-3 loss.
Royal Antwerp eventually won the title following their comeback to force a 2-2 draw at Genk.
A disappointed Victor Boniface has taken to his Instagram account to share the grief from that missed title chance.
“Hard feeling to write, still very sad about the defeat but proud of the delivery of the whole team and fans. Unfortunately, our best wasn’t enough, but the learning remains to evolve.
Pray and thank God regardless of the circumstances.” he wrote
An eventful season it has been for the Nigerian striker.
His six goals in the UEFA Europa League saw him win the top-scorer award and a place in the team of the season.
Another player hoping to get a chance with the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Boniface will attract numerous suitors during the summer transfer market.
