Nigerian Striker Victor Orakpo Set to Leave OGC Nice on Loan

French Ligue 1 club OGC Nice has two Nigerian strikers — Terem Moffi and Victor Orakpo — but one of them is expected to leave the club this summer.

Terem Moffi joined Nice from Lorient in 2023, while Victor Orakpo was first signed to the youth team and promoted to the senior squad last year.

After Moffi suffered a serious knee injury (anterior cruciate ligament) last season, 19-year-old Orakpo was called up to the senior team as cover. However, he did not play much, with players like Evann Guessand, Badredine Bouanani, and Gaetan Laborde preferred ahead of him.

Later in the season, Moffi also returned from injury, pushing Orakpo even further down the list.

Because Orakpo needs regular playing time to improve, OGC Nice is now ready to send him out on loan. According to Get French Football News (GFFN), Orakpo is set to join Montpellier on loan this summer.

Montpellier were recently relegated to Ligue 2 after finishing bottom of the Ligue 1 table with only 16 points.

Orakpo could be a smart signing for Montpellier. He is strong, good in the air, and a confident goal scorer. He will be eager to prove himself and earn a place back at Nice — or possibly secure a permanent move.

Who Is Victor Orakpo?

Victor Orakpo is a young Nigerian striker who first caught attention at an international youth tournament hosted by Bayern Munich in October 2022. He was just 16 at the time and won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award after helping his team win the tournament.

After that, top European clubs like AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Tottenham, and Newcastle United showed interest in him. But Orakpo chose to join French side OGC Nice to begin his professional career.

Now, he hopes to shine at Montpellier and help them return to Ligue 1 next season.
