Nigerian trio eliminated in Women’s Discus Throw at Paris Olympics
The Nigerian athletes Chioma Onyekwere, Obiageri Amaechi, and Ashley Anumba were all eliminated in the women’s discus throw qualification at their Olympic debut in Paris.
Ashley Anumba, the African Champion, competed in Group A. She started with a throw of 57.23 meters, missed her second attempt, and finished with a mark of 58.83 meters on her final try, placing 14th in her group.
In Group B, Chioma Onyekwere, the National Champion, achieved her best throw of 60.78 meters on her first attempt.
Obiageri Amaechi, the African Games Champion, struggled throughout but managed a throw of 45.45 meters on her final attempt. Onyekwere and Amaechi finished 15th and 16th in their group.
In the overall standings, Onyekwere ranked 21st, Anumba 29th, and Amaechi 32nd, leading to their elimination from the competition.
