Nigerians mock Ghana after Black Stars fail to qualify for 2025 AFCON

The Black Stars of Ghana will not be at the 2025 AFCON, the first time in 20-years the Ghanaian national team will miss Africa’s Premier Competition.

Following the 1-1 draw against Ghana, Nigerians took to social media with mock comments about the woes of their fierce rivals and neighbours.

Comments like ‘Sorry bradaz’, ‘Ghana did not cedis coming’, ‘Pain in Accra’, ‘And Ghana should use their 24-hour electricity to support the Super Eagles of Nigeria’ were popular on social media.

The Black Stars now turn their attention to avoiding a last-place finish in their qualifying group following a disappointing campaign.

Ghana, the four-time Africa Cup of Nations champions, officially missed out on a spot for the 2025 tournament after a 1-1 draw against Angola at the November 11th Stadium in Luanda. The team’s hopes were dashed as they ended their qualifying journey with one match remaining, having failed to secure a victory in any of their five games so far. The crucial draw against Angola, who had already secured their place in Morocco 2025, confirmed Ghana’s elimination.

Ghana initially took the lead through a spectacular free kick from captain Jordan Ayew, but they could not hold on as Zini equalized for Angola in the second half.

With the match ending in a tie, it became mathematically impossible for Ghana to overtake Sudan in the standings, even after Sudan’s recent loss to Niger. This qualification campaign has fallen far short of the expectations for a country of Ghana’s footballing pedigree.

For the first time since 2004, the Black Stars will miss the AFCON, failing to win in five attempts in the 2025 qualifiers. Ghana’s results in the campaign include: – Ghana 0-1 Angola – Niger 1-1 Ghana – Ghana 0-0 Sudan – Sudan 2-0 Ghana – Angola 1-1 Ghana.

Despite being placed in what was perceived as a manageable group alongside Angola, Niger, and Sudan, the Black Stars ended with only three points from three draws and two defeats.

They began the qualifiers with a tough home defeat to Angola, followed by draws against Niger and Sudan, before suffering a disappointing loss to Sudan and ultimately, the draw against Angola. Ghana’s final group match will be against Niger, as they aim to improve their position in the standings.

Why should Nigeria mock Ghana. Look I’m a Nigerian but I don’t support hatred of any form..Today is Ghana yes but it can happen to any country, as far as football is concerned. Africans should learn how to show love and support each other rather than hate..God bless Ghanaian nation. One love.
