Nigerians React as Legendary Super Eagles Goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama Is Spotted Playing Golf in Uyo
Nigerians on social media have reacted with excitement after new photos surfaced showing legendary Super Eagles goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama enjoying a round of golf in Uyo.
The photos, taken by photographer Abraham Brown, captured Enyeama playing golf at the prestigious Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort in Akwa Ibom State. The former Lille star appeared relaxed and cheerful as he took swings on the lush course.
Enyeama, unlike many of his former Super Eagles teammates, has chosen a life away from mainstream football since retiring. While football icons like Kanu Nwankwo, Jay-Jay Okocha, Victor Ikpeba and Joseph Yobo continue to take up roles within the sport, Enyeama is now more focused on business and family.
Since returning to Nigeria after his ceremonial appearance for Lille in April, Enyeama has been busy promoting his hospitality venture, Vinpy Hotels, located in Uyo. He often shares videos of himself interacting warmly with staff and enjoying meals prepared at the hotel, showing a softer side of the once-feared shot-stopper.
Enyeama remains one of Africa’s greatest goalkeepers. During his time at Lille, he came close to breaking the Ligue 1 clean sheet record in 2013, keeping 11 clean sheets in a row and going over 1,000 minutes without conceding. He helped the club reach the Champions League playoffs and earned a place in their history.
His career had its setbacks, including disagreements that led to his exit from Lille in 2018. He unofficially retired in 2020 after a brief training stint with Dijon. But he left behind a remarkable legacy: 101 caps for Nigeria, two CAF Champions League titles with Enyimba, and the honour of captaining the Super Eagles to their 2013 AFCON triumph.
