Nigerians secure gold rush at ITTF West Africa Regional Championship

Bello, Umeh win singles events, Nigerian team wins doubles

Team Nigeria completed a clean sweep of gold medals at the just-concluded ITTF-Africa West African Regional Championship. The Nigerians won the singles and doubles events in both male and female categories in the championship to assert their dominance in the region.

Amadi Umeh dethroned former champion, Ivory Coast’s Oba Oba Kizito in the men’s singles category. The Nigerian claimed a flawless 4-0 win over Kizito to win the competition. In the women’s singles category, Fatimo Bello won the final against compatriot Ajoke Ojomu in a close-fought battle in Accra. Bello claimed a 4-3 win to emerge as the champion of the category.

Umeh teamed up with Rilwan Akanbi and Azeez Solanke to win gold in the male team category and Bello led the female team to gold in their category.

The players will look to represent the country at the ITTF Africa Cup starting on May 4th.
