Nigeria’s D’Tigers Secure Spot in 2025 Afrobasket with Dominant Win Over Cape Verde
Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, have qualified for the 2025 Afrobasket after a commanding 77-62 victory over Cape Verde in their final Group B qualifier.
Cape Verde started strong, winning the first quarter 26-22. However, Nigeria bounced back with an impressive 26-7 run in the second quarter, taking a 15-point lead into the break. Although Cape Verde won the third quarter 21-13, D’Tigers finished strong, securing a 16-8 advantage in the final quarter to seal the win.
Caleb Agada was the star of the game, leading with 29 points, eight rebounds, and six assists.
This victory confirmed Nigeria’s qualification for the 2025 Afrobasket, moving them up to second place in their group. Earlier in the qualifiers, D’Tigers had also beaten Libya 75-70 and Uganda 87-67, the latter coming after a strong fourth-quarter rally.
Having won all their games in the second window, D’Tigers are now set to compete in the 2025 Afrobasket.
