Nigeria’s Flamingos Beat South Africa to Reach Final Round of FIFA U-17 World Cup Qualifiers
Nigeria’s U-17 girls, the Flamingos, are through to the final round of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers after a solid 2-0 win over South Africa on Saturday, March 15.
The match was played at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, and Nigeria got the job done to complete a 5-1 victory on aggregate. The Flamingos had already won the first leg 3-1 in Johannesburg.
Harmony Chidi opened the scoring in the first half to give Nigeria an early lead. In the second half, Aishat Animashaun added another goal to seal the win for the home team.
With this result, Nigeria now moves closer to qualifying for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup for a record-extending 8th time. They will face either Algeria or Botswana in the final round of the qualifiers in April.
The Flamingos are hoping to secure their place at the World Cup, which will take place later this year.
