Nigeria’s Flamingos Make History, Win First-Ever FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Title

Nigeria’s Flamingos have won their first-ever FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup title after defeating Japan 2-1 in Saturday’s final in Morocco.
The Nigerian youngsters produced an impressive performance to secure the historic victory, with goals from Awawu Bashiru and Oluebube Umejiaku giving the team the win.
The Flamingos opened the scoring shortly before half-time when Bashiru’s long-range effort beat the Japanese goalkeeper following a goalkeeping error.
Nigeria continued their strong performance after the break, with Umejiaku scoring in the 47th minute, just two minutes into the second half, to make it 2-0.
Japan fought back and reduced the deficit in the 80th minute through Fuki Ito, setting up a tense final few minutes.
However, the Flamingos held on to their advantage until the final whistle to secure the championship.
Nigeria’s road to the final was not easy. The team began the tournament with a 2-1 defeat to Poland but bounced back with important victories over Puerto Rico, defending champions North Korea, Mexico, Venezuela and Brazil.
Their biggest achievement came in the semi-final, where they defeated Brazil 3-1, with Queen Joseph and Bashiru leading the way. The victory secured Nigeria’s first-ever appearance in the final.
Japan reached the final after defeating North Korea in a dramatic semi-final encounter that was decided by a penalty shootout.
The victory marks a historic moment for Nigerian women’s football and a major achievement for African football, as the Flamingos lift their first FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup trophy.
