Nigeria’s Junior Female Yellow Greens eye victory in U-19 T20 World Cup Qualifiers
Nigeria’s women’s U-19 cricket team, known as the Junior Female Yellow Greens, are sharpening their skills for a tough battle ahead.
With the 2025 U-19 T20 World Cup Qualifiers now rescheduled, the team has more time to prepare for the tournament in Kigali, Rwanda.
The competition, originally slated for a smaller group, will now see the Nigerian team competing in Division 1 of the Africa Qualifiers, thanks to a late shake-up in the tournament format.
Coach Peter Aho expressed confidence in his squad’s preparation, saying, “Our girls are focused, and the extra time has been a blessing. We’re ready to take on the challenge.”
The team is set to face strong opponents like Namibia, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe from September 23 to 29. These matches will determine which teams make it to the final tournament, where only the winner of Division 1 will secure Africa’s second spot in the World Cup finals in Malaysia.
Captain Blessing Etim shared her excitement, “We know what’s at stake, and we’re determined to make Nigeria proud.”
Training at the High Performance Centre in Benin City, Edo State, the team is leaving no stone unturned. They’ll wrap up their preparations in Lagos before heading to Rwanda for the qualifiers.
The stakes are high, but the Junior Female Yellow Greens are ready to prove they belong on the world stage.
