Nigeria’s Kingsley Madu Joins MFK Zemplín Michalovce
Slovak First Football League team MFK Zemplín Michalovce has announced the signing of Nigerian player Kingsley Madu.
Madu, a left-back, had been without a club for 18 months after leaving AS Trenčín at the end of the 2022-2023 season. He has now signed a contract with MFK Zemplín Michalovce until the summer of 2026, with an option to extend for the 2026-2027 season.
The defender has experience in the Slovak First Football League, having played 100 matches and scored five goals in the division.
Madu is the third Nigerian player at MFK Zemplín Michalovce, joining Abdul Zubair and Issa Adekunle.
Madu started his professional career at AS Trenčín in 2014. He has also played for Belgian clubs SV Zulte Waregem and KSV Roeselare, as well as Danish team Odense BK, before returning to Trenčín four years ago.
In his first comments as a MFK Zemplín Michalovce player, Madu said: “I want to work hard and help the team. I hope we can finish in the top six and maybe even fight for the European Cup. MFK Zemplín is a great club with good players who want to play football. I am very happy to represent Michalovce and to start my career again after a long break.”
Madu won two domestic titles with AS Trenčín in the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons, which led to a call-up to the Nigeria national team for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, where he won a bronze medal.
The 29-year-old has not played for the Super Eagles since May 2016, when he earned his third cap in a friendly match against Mali.
