Nigeria’s President to host AFCON silver-medal winning Super Eagles on Tuesday Feb. 13
After their remarkable silver medal winning outing at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will receive special recognition in a presidential dinner hosted by Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the State House in Abuja.
Despite facing various challenges, including financial constraints and injuries to key players, the Super Eagles defied expectations by reaching the tournament final.
Their path to the final saw them remain undefeated in six matches, triumphing over teams like Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, Cameroon, Angola, and South Africa, following an initial 1-1 draw with Equatorial Guinea. However, their quest for a fourth AFCON title came to a halt with a 2-1 defeat to hosts Cote d’Ivoire in the final.
Despite this setback, accolades have poured in for the Super Eagles, in repect of their impressive performance throughout the tournament.
In honor of their achievement, President Tinubu has announced plans to host the team players and officials at the State House on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, upon their return from Abidjan.
Following the presidential dinner, the Super Eagles players will disperse to their respective bases in Europe and South Africa, while Ojo Olorunleke will head back to join Nigerian side Enyimba FC.
